Members are usually given time at least once a year to do a longer presentation about their business so other members can learn more about what you do. This is part of a “know, like, and trust” relationship that encourages everyone to refer qualified leads to one another.

Networking groups require an investment of your time and some money for your membership. You should expect to spend at least one to two days per week, at least one hour per week, doing one-to-one meetings with local business owners. Initially you should plan to do as many as you can to get to know other members, learn about their business, and share details about yours to become good referral partners for one another.

Expanding Your Referral Network

These groups often have websites and social media where your business is listed, increasing your referrals through online searches. Some offer personalized publicity through ribbon cutting ceremonies and press releases in the local paper about your business. Many Chambers and networking groups also participate in fundraising events where you have an opportunity to be a sponsor and get your business name in front of new people. These events are an excellent opportunity to partner with other businesses that may support what you do or provide collaborative services that put each of you in front of the other’s customers for new business opportunities.
